Zoe Strachan (Stana Katic) is the main villainess from "A Chill Rain," episode 1.03 of Murder in a Small Town (airdate October 8, 2024).
Zoe Strachan is the sister of Benjamin Strachan, with their shared backstory revealing that they had a close sibling bond until Zoe was 18. During that time, Zoe broke into the home of her neighbor, Rita Sturgess, and stole some of her jewelry, and later tried to claimed to Rita that Benjamin was behind the theft. Rita didn't believe Zoe's claim, and two weeks later, Zoe trapped Rita inside her own home and set it on fire, killing Rita instantly. The madwoman later wrote about her murderous actions in her diary, and entering the episode's events, Zoe was approached by Benjamin, who claimed that he needed $100,000 to cover his debts.
Zoe ran off Benjamin, who later called Zoe again and blackmailed her, as he had known that Zoe killed Rita Sturgess two decades ago. After an encounter with David and Randy Desrosiers (who were looking for Benjamin), Zoe turned heel again and colluded with the cousins to kill Benjamin, with the villainess waiting as the pair attacked and nearly killed Benjamin, followed by Zoe stabbing her brother to death to finish the job. Zoe appeared mournful as detective Karl Alberg arrived at the scene, but afterwards, the villainess went to Benjamin's apartment and approached his son, Hunter Strachan, asking about her diary and a cassette.
Zoe later held Hunter captive before being interrogated by Karl, and the cassette is played and reveals that Zoe informed Benjamin that she killed Rita, who she accused of "betraying" her. Hunter hides out in a wooden shed that Zoe was building, with Zoe searching for her nephew with promises of taking him out for pizza. However, after Hunter struck Zoe's hand, the evil Zoe snarled at Hunter before dousing the shed with gasoline and setting it ablaze with intent on killing her nephew. Karl later arrived and entered the burning building and saved Hunter, and afterwards, Zoe was arrested, but not before snidely commenting on Karl's intelligence.
