The evil Valerie Madigan
Valerie Madigan (Tammy Blanchard) is the main villainess from "No Retreat, No Surrender," the antepenultimate episode of Blue Bloods' seventh season (airdate April 14, 2017). She is the mother of Derek Madigan, who was believed to have committed suicide by hanging himself.
Detectives Danny Reagan and Maria Baez were on the case, and their interview with Valerie saw the grieving mother speak fondly of Derek, while blaming his suicide on being around the wrong crowd. Valerie named Devon, one of Derek's friends, during her rant, and Danny and Maria's investigation revealed that both boys were had participated in a robbery, which made Devon and another co-hort, Kevin Keeve, as suspects. This was after an autopsy revealed that choking marks were found on Derek's body, meaning that he was murdered. However, an update stated that the marks were made by an adult, and Maria's sinking feeling led her to the revelation that Derek's killer was none other than Valerie.
As Maria revealed, Valerie had been reported multiple times for beating Derek, and she continued her abuse after learning about Derek's activities. Her final attack ended with Valerie choking Derek with her bare hands and killing him, and after the murder, the evil Valerie went online and searched ways to make a murder look like a suicide. The demented villainess placed Derek's body inside the closet, and set it up to appear that he had hung himself, and she sent the detectives towards Derek's friends to cover up her role as a villainous abuser.
The episode's climax saw Danny and Maria return to Valerie's apartment and reveal that Derek was actually murdered and didn't commit suicide, but when Danny revealed Valerie as the killer, the villainess went into a rage and attempted to throw out the detectives. Maria revealed Valerie's abusive history, and her internet search on staged suicide was revealed by Danny, with Valerie responding by continuing to blame Derek's friends, stating that Derek didn't listen to her warnings about them and that she wouldn't have killed him if it wasn't for them. In contrast, Valerie claimed that she didn't mean to kill her son, making the claim while she was being handcuffed and arrested by Maria.
