Evil living ventriloquist's dummy Valerie
Valerie (Maren Jensen) was a villainess from "Jungle Man/Mary Ann and Miss Sophisticate," the antepenultimate episode of Fantasy Island's third season (airdate March 8, 1980). She was the main villainess from the "Mary Ann and Miss Sophisticate" storyline.
The segment had ventriloquist Mary Ann Carlin arriving at the island based on her fear that her dummy, Valerie, had become the more dominant personality. As estalblished while performing her act, Mary Ann is the more subdued personality, while Valerie is more bold and brash. Mr. Roarke, after listening to Mary Ann vent about her struggles with Valerie, used the island's power to turn Valerie human, with Mary Ann expressing elation over being on her own.
However, once Valerie came to life, she revealed an evil side to her personality to Roarke, stating that she plans on leaving the island--going as far as killing Mary Ann to acheive her goal. While confronting Mary Ann, Valerie voiced her bitterness and hatred towards Mary Ann, lashing out at Mary Ann for attempting to get rid of her while accusing her of tossing her aside by locking her in the trunk after their act. After Valerie bumped into a glass table, Mary Ann felt the pain, leading the villainess to realize that she could control Mary Ann, after which she cut herself with a letter opener to harm her puppeteer.
Later on, Valerie went on a date with George Reardon, Mary Ann's manager/lover, and engaged in a sexual tryst with George, with Mary Ann feeling the contact and embrace from her room. The villainess gleamed over her tryst with George, which she boasted about to Mary Ann on the following day to further torment her puppeteer, while also referring to herself as everything that Mary Ann wasn't and often suppressed. Afterwards, the evil Valerie attacked Mary Ann and forced her into being her own personal puppet, leading to a performance back at the bar, which saw the villainess crack several jokes at Mary Ann's expense.
Audience laughter and applause was heard, but it was all part of Valerie's fantasy, as the only person in actual attendance was Roarke, who told Mary Ann to fight against Valerie. At that moment, Mary Ann stood up to Valerie, who later grabbed a two-pronged grilling fork and attempted to kill Mary Ann. The brawl ended with Mary Ann wrapping her hands around Valerie's throat, with her dominance resulting in Valerie reverting back to her dummy form, after which Mary Ann tossed her dummy into the fire.
