The psychotic Sue Ann a.k.a Ma
Sue Ann Ellington a.k.a Ma (Octavia Spencer) was the titular villainess of the 2019 psychological horror film Ma (released on May 31st, 2019).
Backstory[]
Sue Ann spent most of her high school years as an outsider as many people considered her to be a loser due to her being the only African American student. Sue Ann had a crush on Ben Hawkins, the most popular boy in school. One day in a closet, Sue Ann was given oral sex to a student who she thought was Ben but it turns out that it was actually an impractical joke that was set up by Ben and Mercedes, Ben's girlfriend. Sue Ann became traumatized by this event and grew up to become unstable as well as vengeful. In adulthood, Sue Ann got married and had a daughter named Genie. Sue Ann also developed Manchausen by Proxy and made Genie believe that she was sick while also forcing her to use a wheelchair to get around.
Introduction/Events[]

Sue Ann is first spotted walking by a liquor store where she encounters Maggie Thompson (the main protagonist) as well Maggie's friends, Andy (Ben's son), Chaz, Darrell and Hailey. The group persuade Sue Ann to buy them alcohol which Sue Ann agrees to do after initially regretting. Once Sue Ann realizes that Andy and Ben are father and son, she develops a sick plot to get back at Ben for his treatment of her. She buys the alcohol for the group but later reports them to Ben who calls the police. Sue Ann later invites the group to drink at her house where her unhinged behavior quickly becomes visible. Sue Ann points at gun at Chaz forcing him to strip much to his embarrassment and later lets the group throw a party in the basement. Sue Ann also becomes jealous of Maggie and Andy's relationship and later steals Maggie's earrings. Sue Ann also flips out on Hailey and Maggie when she catches them upstairs using the bathroom. The group quickly learn that Ma is unstable when she becomes obsessed with them and try to cut her off but Ma refuses to take the hint. Ben brings his dog to the clinic where Sue Ann is employed and invites her to have some drinks with Sue Ann agreeing. Ben then reveals that he has a tracking device on Andy and knows that Andy has been at Sue Ann's house with Ben warning Sue Ann to stay away from Andy. Hailey and Maggie decide to go to Sue Ann's home to find their missing belongings when they encounter Genie. They realize that Genie can actually walk and that Ma is forcing Genie to miss school by making her believe that she is ill. Sue Ann spots Mercedes jogging on the side of the road and plows her down killing Mercedes instantly. Once Sue Ann returns home, Maggie and Hailey successfully escape the house. Sue Ann later kills her boss (off-screen) and stuffs her in an animal cage while collecting supplies to kidnap Ben. Sue Ann goes to Maggie's house and catches up with her old friend Erica, Maggie's mother. Sue Ann later takes some of Louie's blood while Louie is in the backyard and escapes before Maggie catches her. Sue Ann lures Ben to her home with the tracking device that Ben uses on Andy and later injects Ben with a substance to knock him unconscious. Sue Ann later ties Ben up and tells Ben about the trauma she endured because of him with Ben pleading to her that he was just a kid. This causes Sue Ann to snap and run dog blood into Ben's body ultimately killing him.
Climax/Death[]

Sue Ann throws another party for Chaz's birthday all the while spiking everyone's drinks. Maggie goes to Sue Ann's home to try and convince her friends to leave but everyone is too drunk and eventually succumb to the drug Sue Ann placed in their drinks. Maggie tries to find a way to get help but finds Ben's body in Sue Ann's room. Sue Ann hits Maggie over the head knocking her out and later ties Maggie up in the basement by her neck. Sue Ann then burns Chaz with an iron, paints Darell's face white and then sews Hailey's lips shut. Jordan attempts to escape but Sue Ann hits over the head knocking Jordan out. Andy wakes up and pretends to be in love with Sue Ann but Sue Ann (who realizes that Andy is faking) stabs him (non-fatally) in the gut. Sue Ann then taunts Maggie with the bloody knife but when a police officer knocks on the door, Sue Ann goes to greet him but threatens Maggie that if she screams she will kill her. Sue Ann greets the officer who knows that Sue Ann has people in her house based on the cars in the front yard. Genie then arrives in her wheelchair with Sue Ann telling the officer she was taking her to the Doctor. Maggie cries out for help causing Sue Ann to shoot the officer dead and force Genie to drag his body inside while also blaming Genie for the killing. Sue Ann goes back downstairs and forces Maggie to take pictures of Sue Ann and Maggie's friends. Sue Ann then hangs Maggie from the ceiling leaving her to die while Genie lures Sue Ann back upstairs. Genie then hits Sue Ann with a pot knocking Sue Ann back downstairs but Sue Ann unintentionally knocks over a candle and a fire breaks out. Maggie's friends all come back to their senses while Genie helps free Maggie. Stew and Erica arrive and rescue everyone but Sue Ann grabs Genie and prepares to throw her into the fire in a murder-suicide. Sue Ann also calls out Erica for not being a real friend and letting Sue Ann be harassed by Ben and Mercedes with Erica admitting that she was wrong for not helping Sue Ann. Genie proceeds to cry out for help but Sue Ann calls Maggie weak like Erica with Maggie grabbing the knife and stabbing Sue Ann in the back while telling Sue Ann she is nothing like her mother. Genie, Erica and Maggie escape the burning basement with Sue Ann calling out to Genie. Sue Ann then retreats back upstairs to her bedroom and lays next to Ben's body showing that despite what he did to her she still is deeply in love with him. Sue Ann later burns to death off camera.
