Villainous actress Regina Coburn
Regina Coburn (Laurie Metcalf) is the main villainess from "Toil and Trouble," episode 2.08 of Elsbeth (airdate December 19, 2024).
Regina Coburn is an actress who starred in the series, Father Cop, as detective Felicity Watts. After filming, she goes into the office of showrunner Calvin Reed, who suggests that Felicity and partner Father Rick Garvey should finally become a couple, which counteracts against Regina's plan to have her character in a coma so she could head to London to play Lady MacBeth. Regina reminded Calvin that she was promised that she could take the opportunity and stated that he couldn't back out, only for Calvin to berate Regina and state the he could do what he wanted.
The following day saw Calvin being prepped for a massage, only for Regina to enter with a pair of gloves and place tape around his mouth before using an award to hammer a stiletto heel into Calvin's eye, As part of the plan, the evil Regina had contacted the original masseuse, Heidi, and informed her (in a badly done British accent) to cancel the appointment, making the call prior to the murder. Regina framed aspiring writer Blake Balsam for the murder, but Elsbeth Tascioni's suspicions of Regina led her to bring up Regina's role as Lady MacBeth (not saying the name due to it being cursed on sets), while asking Regina to recite a line from the play.
Regina's badly done reciting of "Out, damned spot" was heard by Heidi, who pointed out Regina's accent as the one she heard. Elsbeth revealed that Regina's accent wasn't recognized as hers because it was dubbed on the show; a claim Regina denied and claimed that she was great at accents. Elsbeth also revealed that the reason why Calvin reneged on his promise to let her go to London was to protect her from embarrassment, and it was also uncovered that her villainous plot was borrowed from a script from an episode of the show, only Regina only read her own lines about a stiletto and assumed that it was a shoe, only to be informed that the script was referring to a stiletto knife. Afterwards, Regina was handcuffed and arrested for Calvin's murder.
