The evil Queen Grimhilde

Queen Grimhilde, better known as the Evil Queen (Lucille La Verne) is the villainess of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first feature from the Walt Disney Animation Studios, released in 1937. She was the queen of an unnamed kingdom and the step-mother of Snow White, the main protagonist.

The opening of the film saw Grimhilde visit her Magic Mirror to see who was the "fairest in the land", fearful that Snow White (whom she has made work as a servant following the death of the king) may have taken the position. The Queen's fear was correct, and in response, she ordered her huntsman Humbert to take Snow Queen into the forest and kill her, bringing back her heart as proof of the kill.

However, Humbert was unable to do the deed and instead encouraged Snow White to flee into the forest, where she eventually found the cottage of the seven dwarfs, whom she began living with in safety. Humbert presented the Queen with the heart of a pig in order to trick fool her into believing Snow White was dead. However, the Queen realised she had been tricked when she was informed by the Mirror of her step-daughter's survival.

The Queen resolved to handle the situation herself. Retreating to her potions lab in the bowels of the castle, Grimhilde brewed a potion that turned her into a hideous old woman in order to use as a disguise. The villainess then arrived at the cottage and offered Snow White a poisoned apple, claiming to be a mere peddler woman. The unsuspecting Snow White took a bite out of the apple and subsequently fell into a deep sleep.

The Queen cackled at the success of her scheme and made to leave the cottage. However, the dwarfs, having been alerted by a group of forest animals Snow White had befriended, arrived on the scene and confronted her. The evil Grimhilde fled through the forest, eventually being cornered by the dwarfs at the top of a mountain in the middle of a thunderstorm. As the Queen moved to topple a boulder on top of her pursuers, a lightning bolt knocked her off the mountain, sending her plunging to her death with a scream. Following the death of her step-mother, Snow White was awoken from her sleep by the kiss of her true love, the prince of another kingdom.
