The evil Ms. Fausse
Ms. Fausse (Christine Ko) was the main villainess from "Unfiltered," episode 1.05 of Just Beyond (airdate October 13, 2021).
Introduction[]
Ms. Fausse was introduced as a substitute art teacher at a high school attended by main protagonist Lily Renton, and after assigning a painting project, she approached Lily and took notice of her insecurities regarding her looks. Ms. Fausse claimed that she was once an awkward teenager herself, and gave Lily an offer to skip through the process, doing so in the form of a beauty app known as "Let It Glow." Lily accepted the app, and her first use saw her give a nose job to a photo of herself, only for her actual nose to change in correspondence.
Lily appeared with a brand new look and hairstyle, which surprised her best friend and Quiz Bowl teammate, Carmen Morris. However, Lily experienced the app's side effects, which included memory loss and a decrease in her intelligence, though the episode saw Lily bask in her beauty and popularity by hanging out with a clique of popular girls led by Harper. Lily used the app again after Harper mocked Lily's crush on student athlete Ben, though the side effects worsened to the point where she got every Quiz Bowl question wrong and ended up off the team after they barely won and advanced.
Reveal[]
Ms. Fausse reveal as a soul-stealing demon
Lily alienated herself from Carmen by claiming that she was jealous of Lily's newfound popularity, and as for Ms. Fausse, she voiced her agreement in Lily's claims, referring to Carmen as a person who wanted to prevent Lily from becoming a "butterfly" and opting to keep her as a "caterpillar" forever. The episode's climax saw Lily approaching Ben at a party, but after Ben voiced his thoughts on another girl, Lily used the app once again, only to end up looking completely different. After learning that Ben was more into her intelligence than her looks, Lily ran off and headed to Ms. Fausse's house after her attempts to undo the makeover failed.
Upon entering, Lily saw various young people inside of collection of mirrors, and afterwards, Ms. Fausse appeared to Lily and told her that she wasn't supposed to be in her home. Ms. Fausse turned heel afterwards by revealing to Lily that the people inside the mirrors were essences of insecure victims who wanted to change their imperfections, with Lily being among the villainous teacher's many victims. In response to Lily's admonishment, the evil Ms. Fausse reminded Lily that she accepted the app and that she couldn't undo it all, adding that she (and the others) had to give up her essence in exchange for beauty, with the added reveal that she had been stealing essences to maintain her own beauty for centuries.
The villainess boasted that people would always choose outer beauty over inner beauty, leading to Lily smashing the mirror holding her essence in anger. After seeing that the action affected Ms. Fausse (a crack on her forehead), Lily continued smashing the mirror, leading to Ms. Fausse chasing Lily, who later grabbed a fireplace poker and smashed the other mirrors. With each essence released, Ms. Fausse aged immensely, with the villainess admonishing Lily for making her hideous. Lily later freed her own essence by smashing her mirror, causing Ms. Fausse to disintegrate.
