The evil Meredith
Meredith is a villainess from a short story released by Wnews on September 5, 2022.
Introduction[]
Meredith was introduced as the mother of John, who was in a relationship with the story's unnamed main protagonist and narrator.
The brunette woman was in her first relationship since her divorce occured five years prior, and the progression saw John ask his girlfriend to move in with him, but later revealed that he still lived with his widowed mother. The protagonist accepted her boyfriend's offer to move in with him, and also looked forward to meeting Meredith (who displayed a warm demeanor to her potential daughter-in-law).
Heel Turn[]
Meredith's heel turn; maniacally scolding John's girlfriend
A month passed, and John informed his girlfriend that he had to go on an urgent work trip, but despite his guilt over leaving his girlfriend alone with Meredith, the protagonist happily agreed to look after the old woman, adding that they got along very well. However, later that evening, Meredith suddenly turned heel by entering in the brunette woman's bedroom and harassing her, with the woman voicing her shock over Meredith's appearance. In response, the old woman accused her of being the Devil and a curse and vowed to get rid of her; cackling maniacally to further establish her true colors.
The following morning, Meredith voiced her concern over the protagonist's exhausted appearance, with the latter reminding Meredith about her actions on the previous night. A remorseful Meredith explained that she hadn't been herself since her husband (John's father) passed away, which drew sympathy from the protagonist, but later that evening, Meredith acted out again, this time tossing a bucket of water at the brunette woman and vowing to cast the Devil out of her.
The woman informed John about his mother and begged him to hire a caregiver for her, only for the man to plead with his girlfriend to wait until he returned. All the while, Meredith continued displaying her true colors by biting the woman's leg and scolding a cat outside the house, though she would act charming and later served a meat pie to the protagonist (who turned it down believing that Meredith actually used the cat to bake the pie).
The woman was frazzled, but loved John too much to leave the house, but late one night, she overheard Meredith on the phone, telling "her love" that she would have the brunette woman driven to the madhouse in a matter of weeks. After taking the photo to a private investigator, the protagonist learned that Meredith and John weren't mother and son, they were actually lovers and con artists who gaslit single women for their money. Upon learning this, the woman returned to the house and pretended to be fooled by their plan, which included the evil Meredith attempting to "exorcise" the Devil out of her. John later returned at home, only to find that his fake mother had been handcuffed and arrested (along with her fake son), as the protagonist had called the police.
