The evil Mel Gaynor-Randle
Mel Gaynor-Randle (Brenda Strong) is the main villainess from "I Kissed a Girl," episode 1.06 of Rizzoli & Isles (airdate August 16, 2010). She is the captain of her LGBT bowling team, as well as the wife of Kelly Gaynor-Randle.
The episode's progression revealed that Mel was having an affair with the bartender and owner of Merch, though it was never revealed when their affair began. Mel turned heel by colluding with her lover to kill Kelly and run off with Kelly's $500,000 inheritance, and knowing that Kelly was diabetic, the evil Mel poisoned Kelly's insulin pump with fentanyl and replaced the original pump with her makeshift weapon. Kelly left Merch and was beginning to feel the poisonous effects, and it was there that the bartender followed Kelly and bludgeoned her to death, and later penetrated Kelly with a sex toy to advert suspicion from any female.
Meanwhile, Mel participated in her routine bowling activities to create an alibi for herself, and during her interview with Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles, Mel played the part of a grieving widow to hide her true role as a greedy and adulterous villainess. Mel's villainous role was revealed in the episode's climax, when she was shown meeting with her lover discussing their plans for Kelly's inheritance, which also included Mel revealing that she poisoned Kelly. The scheming villainess was shocked when her lover stated that Kelly's prints weren't on the pump, and it was at that moment that Jane resurfaced with Detective Barry Frost, revealing to Mel that her lover was wearing a wire. Both villainesses were arrested for Kelly's murder.
