Callous mother Marilyn Batson

Marilyn Batson (Caroline Palmer) is a villainess from the 2019 superhero film, Shazam!

Marilyn Batson is the mother of Billy Batson (the titular Shazam), and Billy's backstory revealed that when he was four years of age, he was with his mother at a carnival, where she won a compass in one of the games and gave it to Billy as a gift, stating that Billy would always find his way. Afterwards, Billy dropped the compass while walking with Marilyn, leading to him running off and retrieving it, only to find himself lost while searching for his mother. After spotting a similarly dressed woman, Billy walked up to her believing that she was Marilyn, only to find that it was a different woman.

Billy was found by police and spent the decade that passed bounced around from various foster homes, while going on a relentless search for his mother, only to fail every time. Billy ended up a group home, and later in the film, Eugene Choi, one of his foster brothers, informed Billy that he found Marilyn's whereabouts online, after which Billy went to Marilyn's apartment and showed her the compass, stating that he had found his way home. Marilyn was revealed to be living with her boyfriend, Travis, and was surprised to see Billy for the first time in 10 years, after which Billy expressed his sorrow for running off at the carnival. Marilyn stated to Billy that what happened wasn't his fault, while also providing a shocking reveal: she intentionally abandoned Billy on that day.

When Billy walked off to retrieve the compass, Marilyn realized that he was missing and frantically searched for him. She spotted Billy with a policeman, but instead of coming forward as Billy's mother, Marilyn turned heel by abandoning her son. After revealing her callous actions, Marilyn stated that she was 17 when she had Billy and she was stressed over being kicked out by her father due to her pregnancy, as well as by Billy's father not being in the picture. She claimed to Billy that she abandoned him because she believed that he'd have a better life without her, even adding that her beliefs were proven right, despite her self-serving actions being the cause of Billy's tumultuous childhood. Despite her apparent care for her son, the evil Marilyn brushed Billy away and stated that it was not a good time for them to reconnect. In response, Billy gave his callous mother the compass and walked off.
