The evil Mademoiselle Micheline
Mademoiselle Micheline is a plot-twist villainess from "Werewolf Concerto," a story from The Vault of Horror #16 (release date December 16, 1950).
Introduction[]
Mademoiselle Micheline is a concert pianist and a special guest at a hotel in Hungary, where many of its guests were brutally murdered. Her introduction to the hotel manager, Hubert Antoine, saw her greet Hubert, who was stunned that her arrival was much later than he had figured. After another guest is murdered, the nature of the killing (the guest was torn to shreds) leads to the conclusion that a werewolf have been behind the murders. All the while, Micheline responded to Hubert's apologies for lack of better service by voicing her understanding of his current situation.
Heel Turn[]
In a twist in the story's climax, Hubert was revealed as the werewolf, as he transformed and looked to claim Micheline as his latest victim. After entering Micheline's room, Hubert spotted her piano and noticed that it wasn't paying and actually had dirt inside where the strings usually are.
The discovery, along with the realization of Micheline's other attributes, led Hubert to realize that Micheline was a vampire, and right afterwards, Micheline turned heel by lunging at Hubert, while flashing her vampire fangs to complete her reveal. As the Vault-keeper's closing narration indicated, the evil Micheline targeted the hotel's other guests after killing Hubert.
Trivia[]
- This story was later reused as an episode of Tales from the Crypt, which used the same title. In the TV episode, Mademoiselle Micheline's name was changed to Janice Baird, and was played by Beverly D'Angelo.
