The evil Livie Betts
Livie Betts (Megan Charpentier) is a plot-twist villainess from the 2022 horror film Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders. She was the daughter of Alec and Marie Betts, as well as the granddaughter of billionaire pharmaceutical tycoon Ellison Betts (confined to a wheelchair).
The film’s opening depicted an unknown individual murdering Livie’s aunt Virginia in Ellison's mansion on his private island, where the family gathered to celebrate the patriarch’s birthday. In addition to Livie and her parents, her older brother Cameron was attending with his girlfriend Tara, as was Alec and Virginia’s brother (and the current CEO of the family company) Kyle, who had brought his new fiancée Joy. The gathering proved tense, owing to Ellison's domineering nature, before the family were suddenly thrust into a deadly game themed after a murder mystery board game. The night’s events saw Alec be severely injured by an explosive, as well as Cameron being locked in a room and gassed to death in front of his family after finding Virginia’s body. Throughout the night, Livie repeatedly defended her grandfather against allegations that he was responsible, arguing that Ellison was a harmless old man.
After Kyle and Joy were both killed in the basement, it was revealed that Ellison was indeed behind the whole arrangement, with the aid of his manservant Burnham. Ellison was the grandson of notorious serial killer HH Holmes, having taken up his mantle out of his belief that Holmes’ “darkness” was hereditary. As part of his killings, Ellison forced a young Alec to help him blend in while stalking victims, which included his mistress Magdalene, and even his wife (Livie's grandmother). Having had enough of his deranged father’s cruelty, Alec fought back and successfully killed Ellison by hanging him from the banister.
As the surviving guests attempted to escape, they were pursued by a rifle-wielding Burnham, with the chase ultimately ending in Tara being killed by the island’s guard dogs. Livie and her parents sought refuge in a fishing hut, where her attempts to calm down Marie saw a dog whistle to control the guard dogs falling out of her pocket, which served as her official reveal as a conspirator in her grandfather’s murderous plans. Livie immediately turned heel following her reveal, producing two small knives to murder a delirious Alec by gouging out his eyes, mockingly apologising to his corpse.
In response to her mother's horror, Livie revelled in continuing the family legacy, while also revealing that Kyle was aware of Ellison being a serial killer but had decided to instead cripple Ellison rather than turn him in out of fear of damage to the company’s reputation. Livie revealed she had promised to help Ellison no matter what, with the villainess delusionally claiming their actions were “fair”. When Marie tried to stop her villainous daughter, the evil Livie shot her mother to death with a pistol, calling her a “bitch” in the aftermath. Livie then went outside where she was picked up by Burnham (revealed to be another of Ellison’s children, presumably Magdalene’s son) who congratulated her for being the last standing before driving her back to the mansion to continue Ellison’s murderous legacy.
