Janet McKay

Evil assassin Janet McKay

Janet McKay (Shelley Hack) is the main protagonist/plot-twist villainess from "The Assassin," episode 6.08 of Tales from the Crypt (airdate December 7, 1994).

Janet McKay is the wife of Jeremy McKay, and while she's introduced as a dutiful housewife, she was actually a CIA-hired assassin. Born Ronald Wald, Janet worked for the President of the United States in eliminating several "problematic situations"; however, she disappeared five years prior under her belief that she was being set up by her superiors. Janet underwent gender reassignment surgery as part of her cover, which also included marrying Jeremy.

The episode events saw Janet visited by Simone Bardou, who introduced herself as an LAPD officer looking for Jeremy. Janet was prevented from phoning Jeremy by Simone, and after she attempted to escape, she was encountered by William and Todd, with the latter subduing Janet with a taser. The pair were revealed to be henchmen of Simone's, with the trio set on looking for Ronald and killing him. As for Janet, she was going to be killed by the group, as they couldn't leave witnesses.

Janet was taken to the basement by Todd, who later took her on the treadmill and was about to force himself on her, only for Janet to turn on the treadmill to thwart his assault. Todd's tie ended up caught in the device, resulting in his death via strangulation, and afterwards, Janet engaged in a shootout with Simone before killing William with one of her high heel shoes. Janet was later pinned down by Simone, who became shocked when Janet referred to Simone as "Gwen," while unleashing a male voice.

It was at that moment that Janet's past identity was revealed, and afterwards, the villainess took Simone's gun and shot her to death, while commenting that she needed the trio's help for her upcoming dinner party. The party took place in the episode's final scenes, which revealed that the evil Janet cooked her victims and served them for dinner.
