Psychotic chef Genevieve Hale
Genevieve "Chef Veev" Hale (Pamela Adlon) is the main villainess from "Elsbeth Flips the Bird," episode 2.05 of Elsbeth (airdate November 14, 2024). She is the head chef of her restaurant, known as "Vive."
Genevieve's backstory only revealed that she learned under legendary chef Francois LeDuc, who had an explosive temper that he displayed towards Genevieve, who vowed not to inherit her mentor's demeanor. Despite this, Genevieve has had problems with anger since becoming a chef in her own right, and it was shown in the episode's opening, as she berated her staff during her preparations for a big night, as the owner of Pomm Hotels, Mr. Montebello, was set to dine at the restaurant. On the big night, however, Montebello arrived and mentioned that he suddenly didn't have a reservation, and after seeing group of people at a table that was set for Montebello, Genevieve realized that the original reservation had been sold.
Genevieve confronted budding chef Jordan Humphries upon realizing that he sold the reservations, and after Jordan lashed out at Genevieve for not promoting him, Genevieve fired Jordan, who criticized Genevieve's cooking skills. An enraged Genevieve grabbed a meat tenderizer and attacked Jordan, who took out his phone and showed her the recorded video of her outburst, threatening to make it public and ruin Genevieve. In response, Genevieve lunged at Jordan and strangled him to death, and afterwards, the madwoman attacked herself with the aforementioned tenderizer and portrayed herself and Jordan as being attacked, with Jordan dying while saving Genevieve, who later took out the finished duck confit during the interview.
An "avocado cartel" was suspected, but after Elsbeth Tascioni discovered that they were already watched by the FBI, her suspicions were centered towards Genevieve. Part of Elsbeth's plan included dining at Vive with supermodel Nadine Gray, and she later approached Genevieve at a farmer's market and mentioned her pending hotel deal, with Genevieve claiming that the was still in the running before turning down Elsbeth's request to teach her how to prepare duck confit, but suggesting that she watch her instructional video. While watching the video, Elsbeth realized that the duck was the key, and at the restaurant, Elsbeth, with officer Kaya Blanke and Detective Edwards, reveals that Genevieve set the duck to cook for 90 minutes on the night in question, as she had forgotten about setting the timer as she was killing Jordan. Genevieve was handcuffed and arrested for Jordan's murder afterwards.
