Greedy villainess Erin Riggs

Erin Riggs (Kate Hewlett) is the main villainess from "Dead Man Talking," episode 3.05 of Republic of Doyle (airdate February 8, 2012).

Introduction

Erin Riggs is the business partner of Carl Maher, who faked his death and hired Jake and Malachy Doyle to find out who was trying to kill him. Jake spotted Erin with Bert Antle, Carl's bookie, as they were arguing over Carl's death and finances, with Erin taking away a bottle of wine from Bert's possession due to him being a recovering alcoholic. After being approached by Malachy, Erin stated that the business was suffering financially, and that Carl's death made things even more difficult, while adding that her side paving business was to make ends meet.

After Bert was later found dead, Carl was suspected due to the fact that he attempted to prove that Bert was having an affair with Carl's wife, Olive Maher. Carl couldn't get enough proof, though a photo of Olive with Carl together counteracted against her earlier claim regarding the last time she had seen him.

Reveal

The episode's climax revealed why Olive met with Bert: she had found out that both he and Erin were stealing money from Carl's business, with Jake confirming the reveal by informing Carl about Erin and Bert's actions. Their earlier argument was due to the fact that Carl's "death" prevented them from getting his share of the company, and after learning that Olive had found out the truth, the evil Erin planned to kill Olive by sending her a poisoned bottle of wine. However, Bert took the bottle and drank from it himself, resulting in his demise, after which Erin buried his body in a construction site to cover her tracks.

The villainess later abducted Olive to get her to sign the share to her, and did the same to Carl after finding out he was alive. Des Courtney uncovered video of Erin holding the couple hostage, which completed Erin's reveal, and when asked about the attempt on Carl, the villainess denied trying to kill him (it was later revealed that Carl accidentally pulled the pin on his scuba tank while practicing karate moves in a drugged up stupor). In addition, Erin admitted to attempting to kill Olive and lashed out over the attempt resulting in Bert's death, after which Jake and Malachy entered--with Erin firing a shot at the latter. Carl later tackled Erin, who was shot (non-fatally) by Olive, after which Erin was arrested (off-screen).
