The sinister Deb Kirby

Deb Kirby is the villainess of "The Wicked Witch of the West Wing", the first story of issue 143 of DC's Scooby-Doo comic (release month, April 2009). She was a famous author and the sister of US President Jonathan Kirby.

Introduction[]

The story saw Jonathan calling the Scooby gang to the White House to ask for their assistance. However, before he could further elaborate, the Wicked Witch suddenly appeared on her broomstick in the office, revealing that she was the reason Jonathan had requested the gang's help. The Wicked Witch threatened both Jonathan and his dog, mocking the Secret Service agents who attempted to apprehend her before flying out of the window. Deb then rushed into the room alongside her sister-in-law (and US First Lady) Katherine. Velma Dinkley immediately fawned over Deb's work, expressing interest in her upcoming book regarding White House myth, prompting Deb to make a dry remark about them being in the middle of one due to the Wicked Witch's hauntings.

As the gang split up, Deb accompanied Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma in the gardens, noting that Jonathan's dog, Roscoe, had torn up her roses. In the Mystery Machine, Velma examined a strand of wig hair left over from the attack. Watching, Deb tried to warn her and her friends to stay away from the incident, claiming they were getting too deep into the dark side of Washington politics before departing the van. Meanwhile, Fred and Daphne met with Jonathan and his Secret Service agents in a surveillance room, where they caught the Wicked Witch pursuing the rest of the gang on a live feed. Laughing evilly, the Wicked Witch closed in, only for Scooby's inept attempt to use a hose against the villainess to cause him to be blasted into the air by a stream of water, colliding with the Wicked Witch and knocking her off the broomstick. Defeated, the Wicked Witch was unmasked by Velma, revealing it to be Deb in disguise.

As Velma revealed, Deb's husband Ken had lost out on a government contract for his company. Incensed, Deb turned heel and crafted the Wicked Witch persona to haunt her brother, with the evil Deb intending to extort him into accepting the contract. In addition, despite her attempts to wipe the security footage, the copies on a back-up server allowed Fred and Daphne to catch Deb stringing up wires to simulate her flying broomstick. After lashing out at her brother, Deb was arrested by the Secret Service agents on the scene.
