Daphne Jones, aka Daphne Edwards (Leann Van Mol), was the main villainess from the 2021 Lifetime film, Dangerous Medicine (airdate March 5, 2021).
Backstory[]
Daphne's backstory revealed that she was a career caregiver, and she had taken on construction worker Kyle Edwards as her client over a year prior to the events. She had heard about Kyle's construction accident and took the position as his caregiver, and as time flew by, Daphne developed an infatuation with Kyle--to the point that they began a sexual relationship that led to the pair becoming husband and wife.
However, Kyle began to notice Daphne's psychotic demeanor during their marriage, and six months before the events, he confronted Daphne and announced his plan to leave her. Daphne snapped in response, loudly reminding Kyle that she had done everything for him as she tossed him off his wheelchair. The demented villainess later grabbed an axe and planned to chop off Kyle's arms in a twisted attempt to keep him from leaving her, but just she raised her weapon, Kyle's siblings, Gary and Mona Edwards, arrived and caught Daphne in the act.
Events[]
Daphne breaking into Tony Fox's house
The film opened with Daphne being pursued by Gary and Mona, and after escaping, the villainess stayed under the radar for six months before finally applying to be a caregiver once again. Her client in the events was main protagonist Tony Fox, an aspiring runner who ended up paralyzed in an car accident caused by his girlfriend, Jasmine, texting while driving. Daphne was hired by Tony's mother, Ellen Fox, though Tony was originally against Daphne's presence at first. Daphne's bliss over caring for Tony was interrupted by Jasmine informing Tony that a surgical procedure could reverse his paralysis, and upon seeing Jasmine and Tony celebrate together, Daphne went into a psychotic fit.
Daphne continued to antagonize Jasmine by reminding her that she was responsible for Tony's paralysis; a fact that Jasmine had already reminded herself constantly. Having become infatuated with Tony (shown when she called him Kyle during her spat with Jasmine), Daphne later snuck into Jasmine's home and sent a text to Tony with her phone--a text that portrayed Jasmine as a woman who was looking to see other guys following the accident. Her sabotage works, as Tony broke up with Jasmine, and afterwards, the villainess kept the surgery appointment from Tony as part of her plan to keep him in his care.
Ellen found out about Tony missing his appointment and fired Daphne, sending the madwoman into a deranged tailspin and reminiscing about Kyle. Afterwards, the evil Daphne broke into Tony's home and intentionally caused a gas leak, resulting in Tony passing out as he attempted to crawl out of the house. On the following day, Daphne returned to the house and acted shocked over a gas leak, and later "saved" Tony, leading to Ellen rehiring Daphne. All the while, Daphne had been pursued by Gary, who had been looking for revenge against the villainess over Kyle, leading to Gary beating down Daphne. The villainess later responded to Gary's verbal lashing by revealing Kyle's plan to leave her as a motive for her deranged attempt to dismember her husband, and later took Gary's weapon and beat him to death with it.
Daphne and Tony began a sexual relationship; though she became dismayed when Tony's scheduled surgery was set to take place. The villainess entered Dr. Peters' office just as he was about to prepare Tony for surgery, and injected him with a lethal dose of potassium chloride, killing him instantly. Afterwards, Daphne used Dr. Peters' death to convince Tony that the surgery was a huge risk, claiming that he could have had his "heart attack" (which was labeled as the cause of death) during the procedure. Daphne and Tony's relationship continued to blossom, though Ellen found out and lambasted Daphne's unprofessional conduct.
Climax and Death[]
Daphne smirking at a captive Tony
Later in the film's climax, Jasmine spotted Daphne and Tony's social media photos and noticed a tattoo of Japanese writing on her arm. Jasmine translated the tattoo and learned that it meant, "Kyle," leading her to an online search that revealed Daphne's marriage to Kyle Edwards, who was met by Jasmine and revealed Daphne's villainous history. Jasmine's attempt to warn Tony fell on deaf ears, as Tony accused Jasmine of being jealous, however, Tony asked Daphne about the tattoo, with the villainess falsely claiming that it was Chinese for "peace."
Tony revealed that did an online search on the tattoo, revealing it as Japanese for "Kyle" and confronting Daphne for her past with him. The villainess lashed out at Tony for his accusations and the fact that he had listened to Jasmine, and later tossed Tony's phone to prevent him from calling Jasmine. The deranged psychopath later took Tony to her grandfather's old house and tied him up, and once there, Daphne continued her attempts to take care of Tony, who she repeatedly called "Kyle," while also responding to Tony's pleas to be released by stating that he would get hurt if she let him go.
As Ellen and Jasmine arrived at the house, the psychotic Daphne performed an online search for limb amputation, as she had planned to cut off Tony's arms to keep him from leaving her. She was interrupted by Jasmine, who was knocked down by the villainess, who later struck and knocked out Ellen with a shovel. Just as Daphne placed the saw on Tony's right arm, Tony appeased the villainess by referring to himself as Kyle, causing the distraction that allowed Ellen to emerge and plunge a knife in Daphne's back, killing her instantly.
