Evil teacher/kidnapper Dani McConnell
Dani McConnell (Eugenie Bondurant) is the hidden main villainess from the 2021 film, Fear of Rain. She is the neighbor of main protagonist Rain Burroughs, as well as Rain's high school teacher.
The film introduced Dani as a genial teacher who had known about Rain's problems with schizophrenia, as Dani was shown displaying a warm demeanor towards Rain early in the film. However, her backstory revealed that two months prior, Dani turned heel by abducting four-year-old Malia Robinson from her home, though her motive wasn't revealed. Rain saw an image of Dani taking a girl similar to Malia, though her claims were disbelieved as a schizophrenic hallucination.
A visit to Dani's home with her father, John Burroughs, only saw Dani show the pair her upstairs attic, with no little girl in sight. Rain remained convinced that what she saw was real and informed her friend and classmate, Caleb, about Dani--despite Rain wondering if Caleb was even real. The pair made two attempts to get into Dani's home and search for Malia--the second time coming after they learned the girl's identity--and it was after the second attempt that an angry Dani confronted John about Rain, threatening to have her arrested if she persisted.
Though Rain's doubts about Caleb were cleared once her mother, Michelle Burroughs, saw Caleb, a twist revealed that Michelle herself was a hallucination of Rain's, as John revealed that Michelle committed suicide three years prior to the film's events. Rain's certainty about Dani led her to sneak into her home in the film's climax, only for Dani's return to force Rain to tread carefully. Upon seeing a broken crayon and the basement door padlocked, Rain quietly took the keys to the basement and entered, only to trip and fall after seeing a vision. Rain arose and saw Malia imprisoned, though Dani, having heard the noise and seeing the keys missing, entered the basement and spotted Rain carrying Malia.
Knowing that her heel persona had been exposed, Dani attempted to manipulate Rain into believing that Malia wasn't real, and after learning that John didn't know about Rain's whereabouts, the villainess promised that she wouldn't tell anyone about Rain's appearance in her home. At that moment, Caleb suddenly appeared and attacked Dani, only for the villainess to hold Caleb captive and threaten to kill him with a box cutter, while forcing Rain to choose between Malia and Caleb. Caleb fought back again, only for the evil Dani to strike him with a golf club and prevent Rain from regaining the box cutter, which was followed by Dani admonishing Rain and telling her that she would have let her go--while also lashing out at Rain for not letting things be. Caleb rose up and wrapped a rope around Dani's neck, allowing Rain to escape with Malia as the fight ensued. Caleb managed to escape as well, though the film never revealed Dani's true fate.
