Dana's unnamed aunt is the villainess from I am Never Good Enough For Mom, Now I Know Why, a short story released by My Story Animated (release date October 11, 2020).
Introduction[]
The story began with Dana's aunt (initially mother) informing her niece (initially daughter) that they had to go visit Dana's grandmother for a special family reunion.
As Dana stated in her narration, she, her cousin Daniel (initially twin brother) and the other relatives were in tears (with the exception of Dana's aunt) who appeared to be impatient and excited. However, when the three returned at home, Dana's aunt threw things around the house in a rage and she began to mistreating Dana (first by forcing her to sleep in the basement and refusing to allow her to dine with her and Daniel).
Heel Turn[]
Dana's aunt scolded her son for giving her food and when the protagonist asked if she could move back into her room, the callous aunt lambasted her niece for being greedy and announced that Daniel would move into his cousin's room, while adding that Daniel's room would be turned into a personal office in response to Dana's statement that she would end up in her cousin's room. The villainess informed Dana that she "appeared to be fine" in the basement and the girl's protests were met with mocking and dismissal from her aunt (who accused her niece) for not contributing to her life.
As Dana stated in her narration, Daniel was treated much better than her (with grades being an example). When Dana got straight A's, her aunt belittled her accomplishment by claiming that her classes were easy and accused her of purposely taking them so she could boast about her GPA, however, when Daniel got a C+, she rewarded him with a night out to dinner. The callous villainess also ordered Dana to do various chores and criticized her at every turn, while Daniel kept doing nice things for his cousin (initially twin sister) including giving her a dress for her birthday (which his mother tore up).
Dana got a job at a grocery store, which was also met with disapproval from her aunt; claiming that her friends mocked her regarding Dana's job. Despite this, Dana's aunt took her niece's money under the claim that it was for rent and food, yet the protagonist was still sleeping in the basement and getting table scraps. One day, the girl arrived at the house to see that her aunt and cousin were both gone (with the abusive aunt lashing out at her niece and stating that "it should have been you.").
As Dana would learn, Daniel was in the hospital after having a car accident, and upon arrival, the protagonist was told that her cousin needed a blood transfusion. The girl happily volunteered, but was surprised to learn that they had different blood types, leading Dana tor realized that she and Daniel weren't twin siblings. Dana called her aunt (who informed her niece in a cavalier manner that she was adopted) and responded to the protagonist's outrage over the way she was informed by chastising the girl's "inability" to give blood to Daniel.
Reveal[]
Angry over her aunt's abusive treatment, Dana ran away from home, but because homeless shelters being crowded, she ended up living on the streets and skipping school to work extra hours at her job. Later on, the protagonist encountered Daniel (who was on a crutch) and learned that his mother horrendously slandered her to him, telling her son that his cousin ran away because she refused to give blood to him and didn't care if he lived or died (a story Daniel didn't believe). At her job, Dana received a letter and $500 cash from Daniel (with the letter telling her to go to the written address). The protagonist took the trip and knocked at the door, only to see a woman who the girl recognized as her cousin, who revealed herself as Dana's biological mother and the younger sister of Dana's maternal aunt, as well as Daniel's maternal aunt.
Dana's real mother revealed that she planned to put her daughter up for adoption, but Dana's maternal grandmother (the mother of both sisters) stepped in and decided to give her granddaughter to her older sister for adoption (while adding that she had no regrets in giving her up). Afterwards, Dana confronted her aunt/adoptive mother and demanded the truth; repeating her demand after her evil aunt attempted to slam the door in her face. At that moment, Dana's aunt/adoptive mother revealed everything: she raised her under the agreement that her mother would make changes to her will, with the villainess agreeing because of her belief that she would be the main heiress of her mother's wealth, as she was a struggling single mother to Daniel. The aunt's excitement in the earlier gathering was because she believed that she would come into money, only for Dana's grandmother to reveal that she was leaving everything to her granddaughter (Including a trust fund in her name).
Dana's aunt/adoptive mother's heel turn was motivated by her anger and jealousy of her niece/adoptive daughter's newfound wealth, and she used that jealousy to abuse and mistreat her. The villainess accused her sister of tricking her into taking Dana, while also claiming that the protagonist took everything from her before slamming the door in the girl's face one last time. The story ended with Dana and Daniel both moving out of the woman's house and living with their wealthy grandmother after the protagonist gained access thanks to her trust fund. As for Dana's aunt/adoptive mother, the girl revealed that she lost the house and Daniel doesn't speak with her anymore and added that she would have shared her wealth with her aunt/adoptive mother if she had treated her with kindness.
