The evil Colleen McCandless

Colleen McCandless (Laila Robins) is the main villainess from "The Good One," the antepenultimate episode of Bull's third season (airdate April 29, 2019). She is the wife of notorious criminal Donovan McCandless, and the mother of their sons, Brendan and Connor.

The episode began with Donovan facing a lengthy prison sentence for his various crimes, and afterwards, Brendan stalked Weston Stanley, the judge presiding over his father's case. Connor appeared (at the behest of Colleen) and attempted to stop his brother, only for Brendan to later catch Stanley and slit his throat. Colleen later approached Dr. Jason Bull and pleaded with him to take the case, as both brothers faced prison, despite only Brendan being the actual killer.

While Connor refused to have a trial separate from Brendan, as he didn't want his brother to be executed, the episode's progression revealed that Brendan took a plea deal and planned to pin Connor as the sole killer in order to save his own life. Shortly afterwards, Brendan was killed in his prison cell, and Connor was suspected of placing a hit on his older brother due to the fact that he went to Catholic school with the actual killer. Bull's suspicions were towards Donovan, who denied ordering the hit and even testified that there was no way that Connor would harm anyone, let alone kill.

Connor was found not guilty, while Bull confronted Colleen in the final scenes and correctly deduced her as the true villainous mastermind. As Colleen herself stated, her reasons for sending Connor to stop Brendan were to make sure that her husband would be behind bars for the rest of his life, but after Brendan planned to sell out Connor, Colleen turned heel by enlisting Connor's friend to kill her own oldest son. In response to Bull's claims, the evil Colleen made an indirect confession to being behind Brendan's murder, adding that people had to have faith in providence (the crossword clue Bull helped her with), even at the expense of her husband and firstborn. The villainess informed Bull that she signed his check, while suggesting that they may work together once again.
