Carla Dante

Evil hitwoman Carla Dante (aka Carla Coldblood)

I gotta say, Jimmy, you're a hard man to find. Took me weeks to even find out that you changed your face. Sodium thiopental. It's what they use in lethal injections. It's not as much fun as a plastic bag, but it does the trick. Oh, and I got a message from Junior, Jimmy. He says, "Go to Hell."

Carla Dante, nicknamed Carla Coldblood (Jackie Geary), is the hidden main villainess from Castle's first season finale, "A Death in the Family" (airdate May 11, 2009).

History[]

Carla Dante is the personal hitwoman for the Spolano crime family, which had Jimmy "The Rat" Moran as one of their members. Moran was set to testify against the family, and he was placed in Witness Protection, while also undergoing plastic surgery to remain hidden. His surgeon was Dr. Joshua Leeds, and after the Spolanos learned this, they sent Carla to seek out Moran and kill him. The villainess got herself hired on Leeds' staff, doing so by stealing the identity of a nurse named Maggie Dowd, and right before the episode's events, Carla killed Leeds by taping a plastic bag over his head. She continued the ruse after the murder to avert suspicion, but to also go after Moran, the real target.

Among Castle and Beckett's list of suspects were Carla/Maggie's co-workers, Julia Hammond and Mario Guerrera--especially the latter, after it was revealed that he had only worked for Leeds for just a month. The duo noticed that Maggie was missing, and it was during the interview that Detective Javier Esposito phoned Beckett and revealed that the photo of "Maggie" did not match the one of the actual Maggie Dowd, meaning that she was an impostor and Leeds' killer.

Meanwhile, the evil Carla entered Moran's room and injected a lethal dose of sodium thiopental in an attempt to kill him, but once she was on her way out, she was stopped by Castle, Beckett, attorney Candice Robinson, and the officers guarding Moran, while being placed under arrest. Carla smirked and stated that they were too late, only for her arrogance to fade when Castle revealed that the line was cut, as they anticipated her presence. Carla was taken into custody, where she turned in State's evidence for a lighter sentence.

Trivia[]
