Brace Channing (Elizabeth Hurley) is the secondary antagonist of the 1999 live action film, My Favorite Martian, based on the 1960s television series of the same name. She is an attractive, but dimwitted, selfish, and arrogant news reporter who would do anything for publicity. She seduces Tim and steals the tape containing Martin's true identity with the intention of exposing it on air for the whole world to see.
Biography[]
During a live broadcast of the first Space Shuttle launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Tim inadvertently drops a Jerry Garcia reference while feeding Brace lines during an interview with the sergeant, she then gets Tim fired off-camera for the remark. She accidentally drives into him again after Martin’s spaceship crashed. After finding the shrunken spaceship, Brace believes it’s a toy that Martin planted to trick her into a date. Shortly afterwards, she flicks her cigarette onto Martin, which was later found by SETI, led by Dr. Elliot Coleye.
After a new producer is hired, Brace prepares for a story on the elderly, when SETI arrives, they arrest and interrogate her, thinking that she’s the alien shapeshifting into a human after they found her cigarette that contained her’s and Martin’s DNA. When her DNA results reveal themselves to be human, she connects the dots regarding Tim’s alien story. She then convinces Dr. Coleye to work with her, after saying she can help him become famous by introducing him as the man who found the first alien.
Brace then invites herself over to Tim's house, wearing a revealing red dress and bringing some wine with the intention of seducing him and finding the tape containing Martin’s true identity. After finding the tape, Lizzie shows up to Tim’s house and discovers Brace stealing the tape. After Brace sarcastically comments about her appearance, she then leaves with the tape on hand.
As Brace is about to go on air to show the tape, Martin shows up, gags her, ties her up to a chair, and turns into her to prevent the footage from being shown. Brace sees what’s happening and desperately tries to get out, but to no avail. After Tim and Martin escape the news station, Dr. Coleye spots the tied up and gagged Brace, instead of releasing her, he tells his men that she needs to be “examined”. She begins begging and shaking her head furiously before Dr. Coleye closes the door. It is heavily implied that he sexually assaulted her.
The last time Brace is seen is when she ironically appears as part of a news report as she has chained herself to a fence and tells the reporter that aliens exist, and one of them transformed into her.
