Anna Whitaker (Kristen Bell) is the main protagonist from the Netflix series, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, only to appear as a villainess in a pair of dream sequences (airdate January 28, 2022).
Episode 2[]
The series introduced Anna Whitaker as the ex-wife of Douglas Whitaker, with their backstory revealing that their daughter, Elizabeth, was killed by a notorious serial cannibal in 2018. She also had a career as a painter, though in the time that passed since her daughter's death, Anna had developed a drinking habit and had also been having hallucinations. The first episode saw Anna meet her new neighbor, Neil Coleman, a widower who moved across the street with his 9-year-old daughter, Emma, leading to Anna developing feelings for Neil.
Anna hallucinates a tryst with Neil, who is revealed to have a girlfriend, Lisa, in the following episode. She learned this at Neil's house, where Anna gave a set of markers to Emma as a gift; however, while driving her car, Anna spotted Lisa tossing the markers in the trash outside of Neil's home. In a brief fantasy sequence, Anna turned heel by running over Lisa in her car, though she quickly returned to reality and spoke to Lisa.
Episode 7[]
Episode 2 ended with Anna witnessing Lisa being murdered in the house, with Anna suddenly suspecting that Neil killed her. The season's progression ended up revealing that Lisa was a con artist who had scammed wealthy men and was plotting to do the same to Neil, with her co-conspirator, Rex, appearing at Anna's house and revealing everything in Episode 5. Anna and Rex engaged in a tryst, but the following episode began with Rex being arrested for Lisa's murder. After Rex was revealed to have an alibi, Anna herself ended up arrested in the season's penultimate episode, as her palette knife was at the scene.
Anna proclaimed her innocence, but she ended up in a holding cell after being formally charged. While in custody, Anna dreamt that Douglas approached her and took her to a wedding, with Douglas mentioning that it was a second chance at love. Anna believed he meant herself and Douglas remarrying, but in actuality, Douglas was getting married to Claire (the finale revealed that Claire was merely a colleague and not a love interest), leading Anna to run down the aisle in an attempt to stop the wedding. During her pursuit, Anna grabbed a sword (which was used to open a bottle of champagne) and slit Claire's throat, which was followed by Anna waking up from her nightmare.
