(Jessie (to Anna) "God, you are such a monster!") How dare you say that?! You are the one who betrayed me.
~ Anna's villainous actions to formally denounce her daughter, Jessie

Anna (Crystal Allen) was the main villainess from the 2020 Lifetime film, Beware of Mom (airdate August 15, 2020).

Backstory[]

Anna was a married mother of two daughters, Lena and Jessie, though her backstory revealed that she favored Lena much more than Jessie. At some point, Anna planned to kill her husband under her belief that he was taking Lena from her, and the film's opening, the villainess entered the home and turned on the gas from the fireplace as part of her plan. Unbeknownst to Anna, Lena returned home and saw that the house was pitch black, leading to Lena turning on the lights, which resulted in an explosion that killed Lena and her father.

Events[]

Evil Anna

Nine months later (the film's events), Anna and Jessie moved across the street from main protagonist Kylie and her mother, Tanya; with Jessie and Kylie befriending each other--while the latter was charmed by Anna due to her annoyance over Tanya's strict parenting. Anna's charming demeanor masked her sinister plans for Kylie:  she had planned to take Kylie as her own daughter in order to fill the void left by Lena's death (which Anna herself caused). After hearing Kylie vent about Tanya, Anna decided to use Kylie's antipathy to her advantage by inviting her to her own house party, with Tanya learning about Kylie's whereabouts and scolding her daughter afterwards.

The villainess continued to turn Kylie against her mother, accusing Tanya of not wanting Kylie to have fun before inviting her to a rock concert, where Kylie was shown making out with bandleader Carter. Tanya, upon finding out, banned Kylie from ever seeing Anna and Jessie again before confronting the former, which saw Anna accuse Tanya of being a bad mother to Kylie. After the confrontation, the evil Anna searched for information on Tanya and found years-old photos of her partying, which she texted to Kylie, who confronted her mother regarding her past. Later on, the deranged villainess broke into Tanya's clothing store and vandalized the place before hiding out once Tanya's friend and co-worker, Renee Peterson, entered. After being found by Renee, Anna bludgeoned Renee to death with a crowbar.

Climax & Death[]

Anna Villainess

Anna (in a flashback scene) killing her husband and Lena

The film's progression showed that Anna was verbally abusive to Jessie, as she forced her daughter to continue to befriend Kylie so Anna could take her and give Jessie a sister to replace Lena. The callous villainess even ordered Jessie to bring up Kylie's late father (Tanya's late husband) in an attempt to drive a wedge between them, but when it failed, Anna lashed out at Kylie and later resorted to poisoning Tanya, which resulted in Tanya being hospitalized. Afterwards, Anna was encountered by her sister-in-law, Zoe, who had been hounding Anna throughout the film, and revealed that Anna killed Zoe's brother and Lena.

Anna denied the claims and later killed Zoe after she threatened to report her to the police, bludgeoning her to death with a shovel. After seeing that Zoe left messages for Tanya warning her about Anna, the villainess took Jessie and Kylie (after forcing Jessie to tie Kylie's hands with duct tape) to a motel room, but after the owner pointed out that the girls were outside the room, Anna stabbed the owner to death before chasing both girls. While Jessie was untying Kylie, she heard Anna lash out her true feelings toward her daughter, cruelly stating that she should have died with her father instead of Lena. During her pursuit, the knife-wielding Anna also admitted to killing her husband, stating that he was going to take Lena from her, while stating she didn't mean to kill Lena.

Eventually standing face-to-face with the two girls, Anna continued lashing out at Jessie and accused her of betraying her, and Jessie angrily denounced her as a monster for all the evil things she had committed and doing nothing but blaming others for her evilness except herself. Angered at being called out, Anna attempted to stab her own daughter, though Kylie immediately stopped her. Anna quickly backed off due to seeing a vision of Lena, and immediately attempted to apologize and profess her love for the two, but Kylie also joined Jessie in denouncing Anna as the evil, narcissistic monster she truly was, calling her insane and stating that she would never, ever love her. Now finally realizing that Jessie and Kylie truly hate her and that they will always remember her as nothing but an evil monster, Anna officially denounced them as "ungrateful little things" and attempted to kill them both in a rage, but at that moment, Tanya appeared from behind and distracted Anna, and during the struggle, Jessie finally kicked her evil mother out of her life forever by striking Anna in the head with a large stick, killing her instantly.

Victims[]

  • Lena and Anna's husband (exploded and burned to death)
  • Renee Peterson (bludgeoned on a crowbar)
  • Tanya (attempted to die by poison, sent to hospital, and failed)
  • Zoe (bludgeoned on a shovel)
  • Motel Owner (stabbed)
  • Jessie and Kylie (attempted to stab to death after betrayed them, failed, Jessie beats Anna to death)

Personality[]

  • Though Anna displays the facade of a loving mother, the film's progression revealed that she is verbally abusive to daughter Jessie, and was relentless of her favoritism towards her deceased daughter Lena, who was killed as part of Anna's murderous spree (though Lena's death was unintentional). Her hatred of Jessie makes Anna partially similar to another Lifetime villainess also played by Crystal Allen:  Annie Weaver from Am I a Serial Killer?; as both were evil mothers who despised their daughters and even attempted to kill them. Though Annie's hatred was due to the fact that her daughter received love from others, as well as the fact that she turned in Annie for murder, while Anna's hatred of Jessie was due to favoritism and Jessie's unwillingness to be part of her mother's twisted scheme.
