Ann Cowl

The evil Ann Cowl

Ann Cowl (Colleen Greenhalgh) was the hidden main villainess from the 2021 Lifetime film, Missing Twin (released on Lifetime Movie Club on December 17, 2021).

Backstory & Introduction[]

Ann Cowl was the county sheriff operating in the town of Springfield, where Jenny Markham (along with her daughter, Lily) visited on business. As Jenny spotted a woman with a girl resembling Lily's twin sister, Milly (who was believed to have died at birth), Jenny reported everything to Ann, who later uncovered Jenny's past history--she went after a different woman believing she had Milly, which resulted in Jenny's appointments with a therapist. Ann acted sympathetic towards Jenny, while revealing her own difficulties with attempting to have children of her own.

In actuality, Ann's backstory revealed that her countless miscarriages had left her immensely despondent, though that changed when she actually carried a baby though the full term five years prior to the film's events. However, on the evening that Ann was set to give birth, her sister, Kelly Cowl, delivered the baby, only for the baby to be stillborn, causing Ann to break down and state that she wanted to die. Meanwhile, Jenny was in the next room, with Kelly delivering twins Lily and Milly afterwards, while Ann continued sobbing hysterically. Kelly later abducted Milly and gave her to Ann as her own, and as a result, Ann turned heel and became a cohort in the abduction of Milly, who she raised in the five years that passed.

The woman Jenny spotted with Milly was Kelly, while Jenny's report to Ann served as a threat to their ruse. Jenny learned more about Kelly and Ann later in the film, and after hearing Jenny's conversation with Sergeant Tsu, the evil Ann abducted Lily and took off with her in her police car. Once Jenny saw that Lily was missing, she spotted the police car and tracked Ann all the way to Kelly's house, where Kelly was set to escape with Milly, only to see that Ann had taken Lily as well. In response to Kelly's scolding, Ann stated that the twins belonged together, and after reminding Kelly of her role in the ruse, the villainess devised a plan to kill Jenny and portray her as a deranged woman who Ann had to kill in self-defense.

Jenny tracked the sinister sisters to Ann's house, where the evil sheriff ordered Jenny to return to her car before taking out her gun and firing shots at her. It was at this point that Jenny played her live stream and sent a distress to her viewers, while Connor Markham (a LAPD officer and Jenny's husband) headed to Jenny's location. Later in the climax, Jenny managed to distract and disarm Ann with various toys, and at that moment, Ann claimed that her anguish over her numerous miscarriages served as a motive for her and Kelly's villainous actions, while claiming to be a mother to both girls. However, when Kelly retrieved the gun and gave it to her sister, Ann showed her true evil colors in her response to Jenny's plea for her daughters, as she cruelly told Jenny that she would rather kill the girls than give them to Jenny.

In addition, the villainess boasted that Jenny's story wouldn't be believed due to the fact that Ann was a decorated police officer, only for Connor to arrive and hold Ann at gunpoint. The villainess fired a shot at Connor, striking his left thigh, only for Connor to shoot Ann as well. Ann sent Kelly away with the girls, and was later confronted by Tsu, who admonished Ann for her actions. Kelly ended up defeated by Jenny and arrested, while Ann was shown on a stretcher, having fatally succumbed to her gunshot wound.
