Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison) is the secondary antagonist of the 2022 film Scream, the fifth film in the Scream franchise. She was a teenager living in Woodsboro and a friend of Tara Carpenter, the film's secondary protagonist.
Introduction[]
The film opened with Tara texting Amber while home alone. During this time, a mysterious figure dressed in the Ghostface costume sent Tara a videos taken of Amber at her home, threatening to murder her unless Tara was able to complete a quiz on trivia regarding the Stab films. Despite Tara winning the quiz, she was still attacked by Ghostface, and left hospitalized. Following Tara's attack, her half-sister Samantha "Sam" Carpenter, the film's protagonist returned to Woodsboro along with her boyfriend Richie Kirsch. Amber displayed a hostile demeanor to Sam, claiming that she didn't want Tara to get hurt, referring to Sam having previously left town and gone no-contact with her family.
The Ghostface killer would attack several more times throughout the film, murdering local Vince Schenider, Amber and Tara's friend Wes Hicks along with his mother, Sherriff Judy Hicks and even former town sheriff Dewey Riley. Dewey's murder prompted the Carpenter sisters to decide to leave Woodsboro with Richie for their own safety. However, Tara realized that she had lost her inhaler, resulting in them heading to Amber's house to pick up a spare. At the house, Amber hosted a memorial party for Wes, where she had a tense encounter with Mindy Meeks-Martin, with both girls accusing the other of being the killer. Outside, Mindy's twin brother Chad was violently attacked by Ghostface following an argument with his girlfriend Liv McKenzie, although he survived.
Reveal[]
When Tara, Sam, and Richie arrived, breaking up the party, Amber went with Tara to find the inhaler. Mindy was assaulted by one of the Ghostface killers, with the rest of the group converging on the scene. Suspicion was placed on Liv, who vehemently proclaimed that she wasn't the killer. Amber stated that she knew, before drawing a pistol and shooting Liv in the head, turning heel and revealing herself as one of the killers. As everyone scattered, Amber heard the sound of Gale Weathers and Sidney Prescott arriving at the house. Although the villainess initially attempted to feign having been attacked by Ghostface, she opened fire on the two women, wounding Gale before retreating back inside the house. As chaos broke out, Richie revealed himself as the second killer and Amber's accomplice, with the maniacal duo dragging their victims into the kitchen.
It was then revealed that Amber and Richie were obsessive fans of the in-universe Stab films, who had been enraged at the latter instalments of the series not living up to their expectations. The two then decided to embark on a killing spree in order to inspire another Stab film that would fit their requirements, with the evil Amber boasting about having killed Dewey to show that even "legacy characters" weren't safe. Additionally, the two planned to frame Sam (who was the illegitimate daughter of Billy Loomis, the first Ghostface) for the murders. However, before the psychotic couple could kill their victims, Tara broke free of restraints she had been placed in upstairs, prompting a fight to break out between the killers and victims.
While Richie fought with the Carpenter sisters, Amber faced off with Sidney and Gale in a violent brawl in the kitchen. When Amber was outmatched, she attempted to claim that she was "just a stupid kid" who had been "radicalized" before taunting Gale over her murder of Dewey. Gale then shot Amber, causing the villainess to fall onto the stove and be set ablaze, stumbling around the kitchen in agony before collapsing onto the floor, seemingly dead. After Richie was killed by Sam, the women shot his corpse repeatedly, mentioning how slasher villains always came back. At that moment, Amber, badly burned but alive, charged at them with a knife only to be shot dead by Tara.
