Alexis Stern (Deadly Daughter Switch)

Alexis Stern (Hannah Barefoot) is the main villainess from the 2020 Lifetime film, Deadly Daughter Switch (alternately titled, Deadliest Switch; airdate April 3, 2020).

Backstory[]

Alexis Stern's backstory revealed that at the age of 18, she became pregnant as a result of her relationship with John Beckham, the assistant coach of her school's swim team. Knowing that both of them were young, John suggested getting an abortion, which led to an argument between the couple that resulted in Alexis attempting to run over John in her car. John escaped and survived, and Alexis gave birth to a girl named Hailey on December 29, 2003; however, she ended up switched with Breanne--who was born that same day to parents Brooke and Carter Jenkins.

Events[]

Alexis (along with her boyfriend, Nick) raised Breanne for sixteen years, while the Jenkins family did the same with Hailey; all the while, she was engaging in criminal activity: stealing money from her workplace, a coffee shop known as Steampunk. A DNA test performed on Hailey ended up revealing that she wasn't Brooke and Carter's daughter, and it led to the conclusion that she was switched at birth with another baby, revealed as Breanne. Alexis ended up meeting with Brooke and Carter and expressed her indignity over the news, leading to an arrangement where both girls ended up spending time with each of their birth mothers, with Breanne and Hailey deciding who they would live with.

Alexis became unhinged due to her belief that she would lose Breanne, mainly due to the Jenkins family being more well off than she is. At Steampunk, Alexis was confronted by her boss, Fred, regarding the stolen money and fired her, with the villainess denying the claims before indirectly confessing; stating that she was losing her daughter. The confrontation became physical when Alexis shoved Fred, causing him to strike his head on the counter, killing him instantly, after which she left the shop. During her meeting with Hailey, Alexis was asked about her past, after which she mentioned her relationship with John, but stated that he had passed on, which wasn't true. After Hailey informed Brooke about her conversation with Alexis, Brooke went to the college and spoke to Dean Lerner regarding Alexis and John, with Lerner revealing that John was alive.

Alexis had tracked Brooke to the school, and after Brooke left, she confronted Lerner and asked him what he told Brooke, right before she shoved Lerner down the stairs, killing him. While both families were at the Jenkins' house, Nick let it slip that John was alive, sparking indignation from Breanne, as Alexis had told her throughout her life that John was dead. Alexis claimed that John was a bad man before lashing out at Nick for revealing the truth, while also accusing Brooke of instigating the argument. The villainess later performed an online search regarding Brooke's business, and upon seeing Viv listed as her assistant, Alexis decided to get Viv out of the way, doing so by waiting in ambush while Viv was out cycling before running her off the road and injuring her.

Climax and Arrest[]

Alexis ended up replacing Viv on a temporary basis, with Brooke being immensely impressed and grateful in response. However, the deranged Alexis seethed in extreme anger and jealousy while watching both girls dining with the Jenkins, and she unleashed her anger by vandalizing Brooke's car with gardening shears. Brooke decided that, as a reward for Alexis' help, she would name Alexis in a trust where she would become Breanne and Hailey's official guardian in the event of Brooke and Carter's deaths. After being informed about this by Brooke, the evil Alexis returned to her home and took Nick's gun, with Nick catching her and realizing what she was up to.

Just as Nick was set to call 911, Alexis caught him and held him at gunpoint. Nick started to Alexis that she wouldn't shoot him, which she doesn't, but instead, the villainess struck Nick with the gun and dragged him to the bottom of a short flight of stairs, before breaking Nick's neck. Alexis feigned distress while phoning 911 regarding Nick's "accidental" death, and after being taken in by Brooke, Alexis gave them the location of a vacation house that she and Carter could spend time alone while offering to watch the girls.

In the film's climax, Alexis feigned being ill to get out of going to the movies with Breanne and Hailey, after which she retrieved Nick's gun, with Breanne catching Alexis with the gun and lashing out at her for possessing the weapon. The villainess later drove to the house; all the while, the girls were being tracked by a man who introduced himself as John Beckham, Hailey's biological father, who revealed Alexis's psychotic demeanor and that he saw her kill Nick. All the while, Alexis arrived at the house and shot Carter (who survived), with Brooke hearing the shot and catching Alexis with the gun. At that moment, Alexis revealed her plan to kill Brooke and Carter, while also voicing her jealousy of Brooke by stating that the girls see an actual mother in Brooke, while they view Alexis as a liar.

Also, Alexis stated that she would make Brooke and Carter's murders look like a robbery-homicide, and in response to Brooke mentioning the trust as a motive, Alexis shockingly revealed that she didn't sign it--as she would portray herself as being surprised that she was named in the document and would later raise both girls and spend Brooke and Carter's money. Afterward, Brooke brawled with Alexis and disarmed her, with Breanne and Hailey later appearing with John, who Alexis was shocked to see. Alexis' attempt to attack Brooke resulted in Brooke shooting her (non-fatally) and it was followed by police arriving and arresting the villainess, who begged Breanne and Hailey to tell the police she was a good mother, and when the two shocked girls do not speak, Alexis then screamed in anger that she would always be a mother to Breanne; her words only caused Breanne to run over to comfort her wounded father, having quickly accepted that Alexis was not her real mother, and Alexis ended up being taken away by the police and arrested for all of her crimes, getting permanently separated from Breanne in the process.
