The evil Alana Temper (aka Alana Powell)
Alana Temper, aka Alana Powell (Ruth Bidner), is the main villainess from the 2023 Lifetime film, The Pregnancy Scheme (airdate June 11, 2023).
Backstory and Introduction[]
Alana Temper was introduced as a friend of Julia Simmons, though her backstory revealed that she had lost a lot of money due to her husband's gambling habit. Alana turned heel by running criminal scams in her quest to regain what she lost, with one of them being a cryptocurrency scheme before she started working on a plot involving pregnancy tests. Upon learning about Julia's pregnancy, as well as Julia's own desperation for money, Alana approached Julia and manipulated her into creating positive pregnancy tests so she could sell them.
Alana's customers usually involved women who were looking to trap men into committing, and the arrangement saw the villainess give 70% of her earnings to Julia, whose trepidation regarding her role in the plan increased as the film progressed. Julia spent less time with Alana, who became irritated with being ignored and later confronted Julia on two occasions, with the second meeting taking place in Julia's home. Julia voiced her refusal to create more tests, only for Alana to blackmail her into continuing by threatening to report Julia to the police, while portraying herself as a victim and pawn in a scheme masterminded by Julia.
Climax and Arrest[]
Having seen Alana's heel persona in full form, Julia informed her friend Celia about Alana and her scam, leading to Celia confronting Alana and ordering her to leave Julia alone. The villainess later entered Celia's home and attacked her with a bat, leaving Celia hospitalized, and it was followed by Alana feigning concern to Julia and Drew (the latter being Julia's boyfriend) about Celia. The film's climax saw Julia learn more about Alana's criminal activities from Bridget Wende, a pregnancy classmate who was revealed as a reporter named Maureen Quinn, and later on, Julia was confronted by a man who was dating Sheila, who was one of Alana's customers.
Julia voiced her plan to turn herself in, only for Alana to appear and knock out Sheila's lover before chasing Julia and keeping her from calling Maureen. The evil madwoman tied up Julia and revealed that her husband's gambling habit drove her to her criminal activities, while voicing her jealousy of Julia's good life and her belief that Julia would be all in on her scheme. In regards to Drew, the evil Alana revealed that she ran down Drew (who survived), giving a maniacal laugh after being attacked by Julia, who later knocked out Alana with the bat. The front page of Julia's newspaper revealed that Alana was convicted of her various crimes.
